Creating a level playing field across Europe and the reference standard for WEEE treatment in Europe

CECED, DIGITALEUROPE, EERA and the WEEE Forum have released a joint paper calling on the European Commission to prepare an Implementing Regulation, in accordance with the provision laid down in article 8(5) of the WEEE Directive, that would oblige Member States to adopt fair and consistent requirements of mandatory compliance to the EN 50625 series of standards for all WEEE treatment facilities in the EU.

The EN 50625 Series of standards, that is in the final stages of completion in CENELEC, could create a level playing field across Europe as is meant to become the reference standard for WEEE treatment in Europe. Adherence to the normative requirements in the EN 50625 Series provides assurance that WEEE is collected, transported and treated in compliance with the Directive.
