Cooking Appliances
Estimates show that a few simple steps can lead to energy savings of up to 50%* of the total energy consumption of the appliance!
Practical everyday hints
- Take food out of the freezer a few hours before cooking it. Using fresh or unfrozen food instead of frozen food can save energy as unfreezing food in the oven or through steaming would use additional energy.
- Prepare large quantities of food in one go and then store excess food for future meals. Warming food up uses less energy than preparing it from scratch. Cooking large quantities of food is also energy efficient.
- Cut food into smaller pieces before cooking. Small pieces cook more quickly.
- Prepare small roasts on the hob. Using a hob rather than an oven can be more energy efficient.
- Opt for specialised appliances such as egg cookers, coffee machines and microwave ovens when cooking smaller quantities for a short time.
- When boiling water use an electric kettle but make sure to only fill it with as much water as needed.
- Never use a stove to heat a room!
