Dishwashers

What needs to be done before using an automatic dishwasher?

When you purchase a new dishwasher model:

Compare energy labels to find an appliance with offers high water and energy efficiency. Such appliances may cost more and have longer ECO cycles than models with a lower efficiency class, but they are better for the environment.

Remember, using the ECO cycle during the lifecycle of your dishwasher you will save money through lower water consumption and energy costs.

How to pre-treat your dirty dishes:

  • Do not pre-wash or rinse your dirty dishes by hand. Instead, remove large leftovers with cutlery or paper towels and dispose them. When needed, use the pre-wash programme (if available) or select a programme with a pre-wash phase.
  • You do not need to soak heavily soiled items if the appropriate programme is selected. Please refer to the user manual.

How to run an automatic dishwasher?

Loading:

  • Load your dishwasher as full as possible by using the whole space of the dishes racks or baskets.
  • Make sure that the spray arms are not blocked and can squirt water onto all the surfaces of your crockery.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for loading.
  • Put heavily soiled dishes into the lower basket because they will get a more intensive treatment there.
  • Glasses and porcelain need to stand in a fixed position and should not touch each other. Any crockery which has hollows or cavities should be stacked at an angle; avoid nesting of cutlery in cutlery baskets. Unless particularly sharp or pointed, the cutlery should be placed with the handle pointing downwards. In cutlery trays cutlery may be sorted by item type in order to favour faster unloading.

Use:

  • Please refer to the user manual when selecting an appropriate cleaning programme depending on the degree and type of soiling of the dishes.
  • Use the start time delay function for your own convenience or if inexpensive or renewable energy is available.
  • Use rinse aid, salt and detergent specially made for automatic dishwashers; for dosage and settings please refer to the user manual or the instruction on the packaging.
  • It is strongly recommended to use the ECO programme for dishes with normal soil as this can save energy and water. The ECO programme is the most efficient programme in terms of its combined energy and water consumption.
  • Lightly soiled dishes such as glasses and cups may be cleaned using a low temperature programme or a light wash cycle.
  • For heavily soiled dishes, an intensive programme may be used.
  • Be aware of hot steam when opening the dishwasher during the cycle or right after the cycle has ended.

What needs to be done when the dishes are cleaned?

  • Switch off your dishwasher directly after completion of the cycle
  • To further improve drying results, the door may be opened at cycle end.

For other items please check if they are suitable for dishwasher use.

  • Check and clean spray arms and spray arm nozzles regularly.
  • Check and clean filters regularly.
  • Each time you refill the dishwasher with salt, run a pre-wash or light cycle to avoid corrosion caused by spilt salt.
