Product Testing Methods Workshops

2017/06/07

Bringing together the stakeholders helps create the conditions for progress

Since 2015, CECED has been organising a series of workshops with the aim of analysing and discussing how current product testing methods could be improved to better reflect real life use of appliances by consumers.

The workshops have seen the major product policy actors (policy makers, NGOs, consumer organisations, member states representatives, market surveillance authorities, laboratory experts, consultants and industry) come together to discuss the topic and see practical demonstrations of what product testing involves.

For more information on the topic please contact Félix [dot] Mailleux [at] ceced [dot] eu.

Reports, video and news from the four workshops

31/03/2017 - Workshop on Cold Products

Promoting a better understanding of current and new testing standards for refrigerators; bringing together views and analysis of product policy stakeholders on testing methods. Two important results highlighted in the CECED Testing Methods for Cold Products Workshop Report.

03/11/2016 - Improving testing methods for washing machines and washer-dryers

The report underlines notably the various arguments, proposals and ideas presented by all stakeholders to improve current testing methods and ensure good future ecodesign and energy label regulations. The report also reiterates the importance that all stakeholders participate in the standardisation process and provide input to improve the final quality and relevance of standards.

07/07/2016 - How to improve testing methods for vacuum cleaners

Future product standards and regulatory measures should endeavour to meet as far as possible consumer expectations whilst minimising test complexity and cost. This was one conclusion to emerge from CECED's second workshop designed to encourage a collective stakeholder discussion about consumer-relevant testing methods for appliances.

16/12/2015 - Meaningful and consumer relevant test methods simulating real-life use of vacuum cleaners

The workshop was an opportunity to exchange information, knowledge, wishes and ambitions on what could be done with vacuum cleaners in the years to come. The workshop was not seeking to replace Europe’s standardisation process. However, participants brought ideas that can inspire the work of developing new standards and future legislation (if and when needed).

It was recognised that a common aim is ensuring that future legislation and standards – besides setting requirements and defining measurement methods that are repeatable and reproducible – take into account as far as is possible consumer behaviour when appliances are used.
