Energy Efficiency Directive

The 2012/27/EU Directive adopted in December 2012 is the latest major piece of EU legislation promoting energy efficiency throughout major economic sectors in the EU.

It creates a common framework of energy efficient measures aimed at helping Europe reach the 20% energy consumption reduction target the EU has fixed itself for 2020.

In particular, the Directive calls for:

  • public procurement of highly energy efficient appliances;
  • the development of demand response, opening the participation in the energy markets to consumersin a non-discriminatory fashion.

As a member of the Coalition for Energy Savings, CECED has contributed to the Coalition’s guidebook for strong implementation.
