Since 2007, the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals Regulation (REACH) puts in place a comprehensive system and legislative framework for chemicals control in Europe.
REACH provides a fully harmonised framework for chemicals management across the EU and includes in its scope substances used by electrical and electronic industries. Under REACH, manufacturers, importers and downstream users have to ensure that the substances they produce, put on the market or use do not adversely affect human health or the environment. REACH is the most comprehensive and stringent European chemical legislation to date. REACH requires all companies producing chemical substances in the European Union or importing them in quantities over one tonne per year to register these substances with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA)
Bearing in mind the highly complex global supply chains, the need for legal certainty as well as the need for avoidance of unnecessary costs due to overlaps with different EU laws, CECED provides support to its member’s to help them understand REACH criteria and procedural elements.
In addition to one to one support, CECED monitors developments in REACH, informing members when new changes are introduced by EU policymakers. Many guidance documents and Q&A texts are available from ECHA to facilitate the compliance with the new requirements.
