Smart appliances represent an important potential for energy savings at system level, contributing to the transition towards a sustainable and flexible energy system and the empowerment of consumers.
Smart appliances were characterized as priorities in the 2012-2014 Commission’s ecodesign work plan.
An ecodesign preparatory study was subsequently launched in September 2014 by the European Commission. VITO is the leading consultancy in charge of the study which is expected to finish by September 2016.
